He said that no electronic devices were used in today's meeting to set an example for the people, but today's meeting was held in natural light.
Informing about the details of the new energy saving policy, Khawaja Asif said that all over the world, markets open early and close early, but this situation is reversed in Pakistan, here markets open late and stay open till midnight. We should make maximum use of daylight, which is the reason why wedding halls across the country have been approved to close at 10 pm, while all markets close at 8:30 pm.
The federal minister also said that electric fans will not be manufactured from July 1 this year, additional duty will be imposed on these efficient fans, this measure will save about 15 billion rupees. The new energy program will save us 62 billion rupees. All government institutions will purchase energy efficient equipment, while unnecessary use of electrical appliances will be curbed in all government offices.
He also informed that it has also been decided to ban commonly used blips from February 1, this will save Rs 22 billion, while all ineffective devices have been banned.
On the use of motorcycles, Khawaja Asif said that 3 billion dollars worth of oil is being used in motorcycles annually, on which the cabinet has also decided that electric bikes will be introduced across the country, the implementation of which is ongoing.
Addressing the joint press conference, the federal ministers said that a campaign will also be conducted on radio and TV to make people aware of the new energy policy, so that people can be aware of the government's decisions.
He said that the federal cabinet has approved the implementation of the energy saving plan in the light of the recommendations of the energy division, which will be implemented immediately in the whole of Pakistan. We need to change our lifestyle, today there was no light in the cabinet meeting, the meeting was held in full sunlight, our habits are different from the rest of the world.
The Defense Minister said that according to the energy saving plan, the early closure of markets, restaurants and marriage halls will save 62 billion rupees to the national exchequer.
He said that means we use 18,000 megawatts of electricity just to avoid heat, of which fans alone use 12,000 megawatts of electricity, most of which are inefficient fans. , are inefficient and use 120 to 130 watts of electricity, while currently there are fans available in the market that use 60, 80, 40 watts of electricity, 40 watts have also been introduced in the world.
He also said that according to the decision of the cabinet after February 1, 2023, incandescent bulbs, old design bulbs which are transparent, will not be manufactured, this will save 22 billion rupees, all government institutions will use less electricity. Procuring equipment will be purchased, inefficient and inefficient equipment has been banned.
According to Khawaja Asif, reforms are being implemented in the housing sector across the country to save energy, these reforms will be included in the building code, bylaws of the housing society, in addition to this, 50 percent of the street lights will be switched on. , this will save 4 billion rupees.
He said that we use 29,000 megawatts of electricity in summer, 12,000 megawatts in winter, 17,000 megawatts in summer and 5,300 megawatts of air conditioners. That is 12 thousand megawatts of electricity used by fans.
