The restoration work of the Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Plant, a project to generate very cheap electricity from water, could not be completed even 50% in 6 months.


979 MW of very cheap power was lost in the system on 4 July 2022 due to tunnel subsidence.


The resumption of power generation from Neelum Jhelum Hydropower is estimated to cost Rs 508 billion.


According to official documents, the restoration work of the Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project is slow.


The deadline for the completion of the restoration work of the project is February 2023, but even 50% could not be completed in 6 months.


According to the document, only 2 percent of the most affected part of the tail race tunnel has been restored.


Apart from this, Guards Fabrication 37, Scaling 50, and Debris removal 60% have been completed, installation of the compressor and air pipes 88 while electricity and water work has been completed 90%.
