The country is facing a shortage of 4.5 million tonnes of wheat, and the Ministry of Food Security has claimed that influential people have stockpiled 4 million tonnes of wheat.
The wheat crisis has intensified across the country, people are worried about flour, all five fingers of the mill owners and farmers are in ghee and the profiteers have made an extra two billion rupees while the hoarders have earned a profit of Rs 30 billion.
The Ministry of Food Security says that the province could not meet the 21% wheat procurement target, while the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has failed to stop wheat smuggling, and 6 lakh tons of wheat has been smuggled through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Afghanistan.
The Ministry of Food Security said that the country is facing a shortage of 4.5 lakh tonnes of wheat, while the affected districts have stored 4.0 lakh tonnes of wheat. And according to the report, hoarders have earned an additional profit of Rs 30 billion in two months.
