Preparations for conducting local elections were resumed in the Federal Territory of Islamabad

According to sources, ballot papers were handed over to all returning officers regarding the preparations for local elections

Returning officers on the election commission were summoned to get ballot papers on holiday

On the other hand, the government and the Election Commission have filed an intra-court appeal against the decision of the single bench of the Islamabad High Court regarding the local body elections, while Tehreek-e-Insaf and Jamaat-e-Islami have filed a contempt of court petition against the non-implementation-of-the-decision.

It should be noted that earlier President Dr. Arif Alvi sent back the Islamabad Local Government Amendment Bill without signature.

President Arif Alvi has returned the Islamabad Capital Territory Local Government (Amendment) Bill 2022 without his signature under Clause (1) (b) of Article 75 of the Constitution.

The President says that due to this bill, the local elections will be further delayed, as a result of the hasty measures taken by the federal government, the electoral process has been delayed twice, which is not positive for democracy.

In the post from the President's office, it has been said that due to the following wrong actions of the federal government, the elections could not be held in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).
